enrolment

The Bishop’s Commission for Catholic School’s Diocesan Enrolment Policy is the adopted enrolment policy throughout the Armidale Diocese. It has been devised to support the parish priest and the school principal in discerning and implementing a transparent and equitable enrolment process that meets the needs and aspiration of families within the context of Catholic principles and values, NSW legislation and the available educational resources at the local level.

It sets a common, consistent approach in enrolment practices across all schools and negates the need for schools to have a separate local policy.

St Xavier’s has launched Qkr! by Mastercard; cashless ordering for Canteen lunches, and selected school payments. Qkr! (pronounced ‘quicker’) is a secure mobile app which enables parents and guardians to order and pay for goods & services directly from their smart phone. Qkr accepts all major credit and debit cards and you can register more than one card within the app. The Qkr app is available for free from the Apple App Store and Google Play. If using an iPad you can download the iPhone version of Qkr. Getting started is easy. Just a couple of minutes to download and register and you are ready to start making payments right away.

Qkr takes the hard work out of processing school payments, leaving staff and volunteers free to concentrate on more important matters. We are hoping that Qkr will become the preferred payment method for all payments by families to our school.

pastoral care

The gospel values are signs of the underlying principles within our School. These principles, therefore, show forth the love and respect we have for ourselves and for each member of the school community of St Xavier’s.

When the School Community provides reasonable rules about behaviour and examples that are positive and consistent, children learn to control impulsive behaviour and to work towards desirable goals. This growing self‐discipline leads to further self‐confidence, self‐respect and self‐esteem.

Aims

To make every effort to cultivate self‐esteem in each student by positive reinforcement. To lead students to accept rules as a necessary part of community. To develop within the school community of St Xavier’s:

  • A relationship with God;
  • A joy in living;
  • Good study habits;
  • Co-operative work habits;
  • Personal goal setting-decision making;
  • A respect for self and others;
  • A love of Christian principles;
  • Care of individual and community property;
  • A respect for authority;
  • Desire for a Christian social and academic atmosphere;
  • Pride in our school;

To develop within students an understanding of self‐discipline, so that anti ‐social and/or irresponsible behaviour is gradually eradicated.

Implementation
  1. The primary responsibility for curbing irresponsible behaviour in the classroom belongs to the Classroom Teacher, beginning with establishing class rules and consequences. Similarly, responsibility on the playground belongs to the teacher on duty.
  2. All staff follow a System of School Rules and Awards.
  3. All class teachers and the executive monitor the playground behaviour of students through the use of a playground behaviour book system.
  4. Students who need time out from the Playground, or who do not complete work satisfactorily, will spend time in the Taking Responsibility or Work Modification Rooms during second half lunch period. A record will be kept with names and reasons for the children’s attendance.
  5. In accordance with the Education Act 1990, Sec on 47 (f) the corporal punishment of students is not permitted.

Bullying of students is not permitted at St Xavier’s. Staff, parents and students are asked to report any incidences of bullying to the School Executive for their immediate attention. Staff must be diligent in their classroom and playground supervision to ensure that bullying does not take place. Once reported a plan for intervention, monitoring and reassessment is to be worked out in consultation with the student’s family.
